• Sharon Lee Hunt

    July 9, 2016
  • Sharon Lee Whittington Hunt, age 73, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away peacefully after her courageous battle with lung cancer on June 5, 2016.

Sharon was born in Lubbock, Texas to Virgil and Mae Perry Dillard on January 14, 1943.  Virgil served in the Army during World War II while Mae raised Sharon and her younger brother Jack.  In 1961, Sharon graduated from Lubbock High School where she developed lifelong friendships that flourished to this day.  It was during these formidable years that Sharon honed her extraordinary gift of gab, a dry sense of humor and infectious laugh.  These traits, along with her strong faith in God and devotion to her family, were the fabric of her character that made her such a wonderful and caring mother, spouse and friend.

One of Sharon’s greatest accomplishments and joys in her life was raising her three children.  She was always the first to volunteer for carpool, serve as den mother in their classroom, bake cookies for snacks, and of course, provide daily reminders to finish chores and homework.  She never missed a football game, a wrestling match, cheerleading half time show or track meet and was often the most animated and enthusiastic supporter at her kids’ events.  Sharon was an amazing cook of traditional southern comfort food and loved to travel, particularly as she did for over three decades with her friends from the Q&A group.   She volunteered her time and energy to support her church as well as numerous charitable organizations including Meals on Wheels and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

After raising three children, Sharon pursued a career as a real estate agent in Dallas, Texas where she proved that a farm raised girl from West Texas could be successful in the big city.  Sharon also served on the Board of Directors of Pillar Income Asset Management for over eleven years.  In 2005, Sharon retired to Hot Springs Village where she spent her time doting on her four grandchildren, serving her church, making friends laugh and dabbling in politics as the local President of the Women’s Republican Party.

Cancer may have gotten the best of her body but was no match for her laughter, faith and enduring spirit.  Sharon had a profound impact on the lives of her friends and family and will leave a legacy of love and faithfulness to all those who had the fortunate opportunity to know her.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Mae, and brother Jack.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband of twenty-four years, Patrick Hunt, children Rowdy Whittington, Shane Whittington and his wife Elena Whittington, Laurie Whittington, grandchildren Emma, Lauren Taylor, Reese and Austin and sister in law Teresa Silverman Dillard.

A memorial service will be held at Village Bible Church in Hot Springs Village on July 16, 2016 at 1:00 pm.  The church is located at 101 Ponderosa Way, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Village Bible Church or Arkansas Hospice on their website at www.arkansashospice.org.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to CHI St. Vincent Hospital, Arkansas Hospice and Abundant Life Care Home for the loving and caring support in her final days.
